About

I’m Laurinda Wallace, writer and history enthusiast. My husband, David and I are natives of Castile, NY and love researching the history of Western New York. I hope you enjoy these historical snapshots and are inspired to dig for more information on your own. Stop by often for the latest from the past.

If you’re interested in checking out my books, many of which are connected to Western New York, all are available at Amazon, and several are also available at Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, and more.

The Gracie Andersen Mystery Series is set in Wyoming County and is for those who enjoy traditional whodunnits or “cozy” mysteries. All have lots of local flavor, dogs, humor, and a murder to solve, with plenty of twists. Books in the series: Family Matters, By the Book, Fly by Night, Washed Up, Pins & Needles, and The Mistletoe Murders.

Too Close to Home: The Samantha Zaldivar Case is co-authored with Stephen Tarbell, an investigator in the horrific murder case of seven-year-old Samantha Zaldivar in 1997. One of Wyoming County’s most notorious murders, it shocked our rural communties.

Nocturne for Evangeline: The Murder of Will Roy is the account of a murder that stunned the quiet village of Castile, NY in the fall of 1886, and made the headlines for over a year. It’s a multi-layered story with many questions still remaining today.

Notorious: Wyoming County’s Most Infamous Murders 1848-1913 examines nine high-profile murder cases that were all closely followed by the press and the public during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Some even made national headlines because of the shocking brutality or unusual circumstances. Each case was unique with some remaining unsolved and defendants released, others found themselves convicted on lesser charges, and two went to the gallows for their crimes.

These and other books are available at Amazon in Kindle or paperback. The Gracie Andersen series and Notorious are also available at Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and several other e-book distributors.
